There is no direct relationship between them putting your logo on their site and the planting of ten trees. It is a way for them to help get you exposure. And that exposure will bring support; hopefully the financial kind.

We recently added a badge to our site that let people know that we supported climate change. It was a simple logo that we were easily able to embed onto our site. The reason we did it, was pure selfishness. We support the earth. By making this small gesture, it helped Brighter Planet to offset 350 pounds of carbon.

Companies spend millions in advertising. Why? because it works. A well thought out campaign, can make or break a company. So, why do Non-Profits not spend the time doing this?

The other day I came across a site that gave their users an opportunity to download posters that expressed their organization's cause. I thought it was a fantastic idea. Users were able to pick from 4 posters that were well-designed, well thought out and sent the message home. They were then free to print them out and place them around their workplace, school or community. This type of idea is pretty easy to do, but requires a bit of forethought and effort. It left me to think how to properly execute this.

I will guarantee you that 4 out of 5 of Non-profits reading this do not recognize supporters on their Website. And if you say that you are, you are probably doing it wrong. You probably have them listed, but they're hidden on some page that has an outdated list of your supporters. Why is this wrong?

Any business out there needs to advertise (Simple enough). Billions of dollars are spent on campaigns to develop a brand image, so that when people buy their product or service, they adopt that image. This statement may offend you, but for the most part it's true. Advertising agencies spend countless hours understanding why consumer spend they way they do.
